the closest where the highest waves would be. for us here projected time is 8:08:00 a.m. at the golden gate bridge. the good news is we're going into a low tide. waves two to four feet possible. possible. this is what happened after of japan. this is called a mega thrust. it moved away. as that water has to be displaced and has to move. as it goes over the pacifics the ships would not notice it. it's when it moves closer toward shallow land. they get closer toward the coast. again, it will hit hawaii first and it will wrap around. it's not just one wave but it will wrap around. when that would happen it would be 3:00 a.m. our time. if it does arrive it would be around 8:08:00 a.m.. for now we go to jade hernandez. she is along the coast. >> reporter: i have to tell you we just learned a command post has been set up three minutes from here at a nearby high school. five different fire departments will converge to aid the pacific of fire department in case of possible evacuations. no evacuations have been made so far this morning. no plans have been made to evacuate. of course ther

these shots for us again. this is breaking news. we understand that this is possibly a refinery fire and that it is in newark near cherry. we do have a crew on the way. >> the crew is on the scene. sal, i know you're picking up more information about this don't you? >>> yeah. you know this smoke will be visible from highway 84 and possibly from highway 880. you'll also notice if you live in newark there's a big response. a lot of times people do get worried when they hear the sirens heading down to this part of town in newark. so it's going to be plainly obvious that something is going on in newark. and, again, since it's dark traffic will not be able to see the smoke. this was reported just a while ago. and the firefighters are on the scene. evergreen oil is the same facility that a little while back al gore visited you remember when he came to the bay area and was there for a press event. a lot of people know this is on smith avenue in newark. and right now we're not getting through to the phone obviously they're not picking up the phone. so we're trying to find out more informatio

into effect july 1. >>> time now 6:05. san francisco police say criminals are using glue to steal money at the atm. ktvu's jade hernandez is in the city right now to tell us what police say you can do to protect your money. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. thieves are targeting atm users when customers put in their key cards. they're actually using glue guns to mess with the buttons at the bottom of the pad. see this enter, clear and cancel? thieves are using glue guns to stick those buttons down when a customer comes in. and then the customer can't finish the process because those keys get stuck. the customer goes inside the bank for help leaving their card outside or information still up on the screen. that's when thieves step in. a local paper reports the richmond station police captain here in san francisco says january -- since january there have been four of these types of thefts in the richmond district. thieves are using those glue guns to stick the buttons down. and this method is less risky because it's not violent and the penalty for getting caught is a mi

security check. they didn't tell us what happened immediately after police arrived. but at some point, a person appeared to be intent on fleeing police. she hit the support beam and that's some of the damage. firefighters did come out to check out the support beam and make sure the building was sound. there's about six apartment units behind us. and police did catch up with the driver on california. she was arrested. but again, at this point, police aren't able to tell us what she was arrested for or why she was trying to flee police. we went to headquarters and they said a sergeant wasn't available to give us anymore information. we will continue to try to get more information and bring you an update. >>> a st. mary's college student is being held on bail this morning accused of exposing himself to children at a gym. the 22-year-old student reportedly exposed himself to two 5-year-olds at a fitness gym back on march 14th. he was arrested wednesday, and booked on suspension of indecent exposure and annoying or molesting children. >>> they'll reopen today as scheduled after a music eng

and it could be several hours before 80 is reopened. officer tony prisco joins us on the phone. can you tell me what happened here? >> well, there's a lot to it and i'll try to give you the brief version. we had several big riggs that initially got involved in this accident and followed by about 30 plus cars. and obviously one fatality unfortunately. i do believe that it was a contribute -- i do believe weather was a contributing factor. we've had to close the eastbound lanes as well just to give the tow trucks and the emergency personnel to the accident. >> how long before everything gets cleaned up. i imagine it's going to take some time before 80 is reopened. >> it will take quite a while. i wish i could give you an accurate estimate right now and i can't do that. but i can tell you this. eastbound traffic it's got some severe delays as well. so anybody coming up here they might want to think about coming up tomorrow morning instead. i expect this to be cleaned up by tomorrow morning. but you know, it creates a problem. we get the accident, we have to not only ensure that everybo

corporation on warm springs boulevard. ktvu's kraig debro joining us live now. kraig, i think you've got a pretty good idea how those robbers may have gotten in there. good morning. >> reporter: yeah, dave. in fact i just confirmed it with police but i wanted to show you how we stumbled upon it i guess you could say. the company located in south fremont. if you're looking for the building there's no way you can tell how the robbers got in. we went to the back and saw the adjacent property and saw the yellow police tape. the back of the company is right here. so also a privacy hedge. we walked along the privacy hemming we saw there was a hole right here between the two properties. and when i got down here i noticed there was a hole in this fence here. and if you look very closely you can see there's some shiny metal sticking out from where the fence was cut here. in addition to that you can see some branches that were ripped off, not cut but ripped off. so just a few momentsing a police confirmed what we suspected. and that is the robbers got in to the property through this hole in the fenc
